German Design Award 2019: Special Mention for Leonhard Kurz

January 10, 2019

The third edition of the Box in Box by Leonhard Kurz has been awarded the title "Special Mention" at the German Design Award 2019. The Box in Box is a sample collection of elaborately refined design boxes, which is published as an inspiration for creative packaging design.

Thematic basis for the collection is a trend study, which creates the Kurz trend team every year together with a trend agency. The trends are reflected in many ways in the packaging design and are transformed by the short designers into a tangible and visible experience. The elaborately refined packaging reveals new creative possibilities to capture the zeitgeist and aesthetically depict social currents. They encourage you to go new ways in packaging decoration to give products a unique appearance.

Shortly received the Special Mention in the segment Excellent Communications Design and in the category Packaging. The title Special Mention honors works whose design has particularly successful aspects or solutions - an award that honors the commitment of companies and designers. The award-winning box in box number three is described in the jury's statement as "an exciting concept that was implemented great and makes you want to go on a journey of discovery".

"We are very happy about the Special Mention of the German Design Award, as this award enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide. This gives our design work a special appreciation, "say short designers Annie Kuschel and Julia König, who are responsible for the design and concept.

The premium prize of the German Design Council

The German Design Award is the international premium prize of the German Design Council. His goal: to discover, present and highlight unique design trends. Each year, therefore, top-class submissions from product and communication design are honored, all of which are groundbreaking in the international design landscape in their own way. The German Design Award is one of the most recognized design competitions worldwide and enjoys a high reputation far beyond the professional circles. Since its premiere in 2012, the award has grown strongly: At that time, around 1,500 submissions were presented to the jury - this year it was over 5,400, of which 2,925 came from abroad. The design of Kurz was thus able to prevail against a large field of international competitors.
