Performance Print celebrates successful first year of business

September 15, 2021

Staffordshire-based Performance Print, the independent engineering and consultancy firm which supports customers across the labels and flexible packaging industry, is celebrating a successful first year of operating.

Established in 2020, Performance Print offers consultancy services and solutions for labels and flexible packaging manufacturers across every sector from food and pharmaceutical labels through to sleeves and pouches. “We are delivering a full range of services, from preventative maintenance contracts, breakdown support, press relocation and installation, through to press upgrades and rebuilds, operator training, application support and instruction on LEAN production and management,” said founder Sam Adams, who has more than 30 years’ experience within the flexographic and offset industries.

“The last 18 months has been a real rollercoaster for the industry, with the impact of the global pandemic affecting almost everyone in different ways,” he said. “Issues from importing parts and travel limitations affecting the availability of maintenance engineers through to having an entire workforce that was subject to ever-changing restrictions have just compounded the difficulties businesses already encountered on a daily basis.

“With many customers looking to replace end-of-life components or retrofit machines, we’ve already earned a reputation for sourcing the best parts at the best prices,” said Sam. “We’re effectively a one-stop-shop, supplying whatever a customer needs at a competitive price, without compromising on quality. We have been able to use our years of experience and knowledge to help customers across the industry successfully navigate their own individual daily challenges and help ensure that they could continue operating uninterrupted and at capacity.

“For example, over the past year we have been intrinsic to helping one customer set up a new business, sourcing and installing all their equipment and then optimising the production speed,” said Sam. “We’ve successfully completed an entire multi-press site relocation for one of the UK’s major converters and completed a programme of rebuilds and refurbishments with a major used press dealer too.

“We’ve also helped customers to identify the presses that meet their specific needs, both here in the UK and overseas, carrying out pre-purchase inspections and assessments on machinery ensuring their investment meets their expectations.”

A former field service engineer himself, Sam’s career has taken in a number of key roles including as a print instructor and production manager, as well as European/SEA Service Director for a major press manufacturer. His knowledge of the industry is globally recognised by his peers and his expertise has been a major influence in helping converters realise their investments globally.

“This has been a great first year for us,” said Sam. “From our very first job through to the most recent, we’ve been able to demonstrate the impact we can have on a customer’s business. Whether it has been troubleshooting a particular technical issue, ensuring operators are fully trained or advising on new equipment investments to achieve the company’s objectives, we’ve already established our reputation for delivering on our promises.

Sam said that despite the numerous lockdowns and restrictive working conditions faced in the last year, the Performance Print team had enjoyed a great reception from the industry. “We really could not have asked for a better welcome or more support in this first 18 months, even with all the challenges,” he said. “We have received outstanding support from our colleagues, customers and partners, and look forward to helping existing and new customers throughout the UK and Europe.”
