Delivery of the UK’s first Elitron Spark Automatic Cutting System opens up new business opportunities for GraphicArtz Featured

March 20, 2020

Bedfordshire based GraphicArtz, is a small new printing and sign making business which was founded In September 2018 by Kenny Harper and Virginia Kairiene.

Originally cutting by hand or outsourcing, Kenny and Virginia wanted to improve quality, increase output and process a wider range of materials. Before ordering the Elitron Spark Kenny spoke with Allan Ashman Managing Director of Atech, the UK distributor for Elitron. “Allan gave me an honest evaluation of the Spark, I knew what to expect and these expectations have been met. I did look at another cutting system but I believe this is the best machine we could have bought for our budget”.

The machine was delivered in October 2019; installation was completed in two days, followed by three days of training which Kenny said was very smooth and professional.

When the Elitron Spark was installed the installation team went to great lengths to ensure the machine was in the best possible position, Once the Spark was in the place it was accurately levelled to make sure that the cutting surface was set perfectly, I've been involved with other cutting table installations before and have not seen a team work to this level of accuracy.  The installation was quick, the installers were professional and knowledgeable, within a few days of their arrival the Spark was up and running and we began training. After another few days we were running the machine on our own, cutting live jobs but still under their watchful eye”.

The new Spark is a compact conveyor cutting system with roll handling capability and a working area of 1.9 x 1.6m, the Spark features a camera to read registration marks together with a multi-tool head capable of handling 4 tools simultaneously. These can include oscillating knife (either electric or pneumatic), router, creasing wheels, kiss-cut, V-cut (45°), circular knife, pen module and laser pointer.

Kenny reports that the operators are very pleased with the system. “The Elitron Spark itself is very easy to operate and simple to maintain. After a few days training the software side of the package quickly became very easy to use”.

Kenny added, “We are now finishing jobs in house. For example we have the router option which enables us to accurately cut acrylic and aluminum composite material to shape. The creasing wheel option has allowed us to produce packaging items which couldn't have done previously. This in turn has reduced production costs”.

Kenny would highly recommend Atech and Elitron concluding, “We hope that as we grow as a business we will be in a position to buy a second Elitron Spark or perhaps a larger cutting table from the Elitron range. I've known Atech for many years; they have proved to be an excellent business partner.  Atech it's not about the sale of a machine or what it costs, but about always delivering the best level of support possible”.
