Hull-based signage manufacturer and installer Sovereign Signs supported leading electrical retailer Currys with a major rebrand by using materials from Soyang Europe to create a wide range of fresh, eye-catching signage.

Earlier this year, the retailer announced it was to bring its Currys PC World, Carphone Warehouse, Team Knowhow and Dixons businesses together under the Currys brand, with the aim of rolling out its new identity in October.

The widescale rebrand meant Currys was required to update signage across its network of over 450 shops across the UK to reflect the name change and showcase its new identity to customers nationwide.

Sovereign Signs successfully bid for and won a tender to carry out work in 18 of these stores, seeing off rival bids from a number of competitors. As the project included a host of sign and display applications with varying requirements, Sovereign Signs approached Soyang Europe for support.

“We needed advice on what materials were being used on the Currys contract as we had previously been using an external supplier and wanted to undertake some of this project ourselves, in-house,” Sovereign Signs’ Operations Manager Steve Hancock said.

After speaking with the expert team at Soyang Europe, Sovereign Signs selected a range of products for the Currys rebrand. These included Soyang Terra 260 BW fabric banner for all signage inside Currys stores, coupled with Greenstrip 14mm silicone that was stitched onto the top edge of the Terra 260 BW.

Sovereign Signs also used Endutex Print PA for non-illuminated smaller frames that were installed either side of the logo boxes, as well as BackEx PVC backlit banner for the illuminated Currys logo boxes placed externally on the side of each building.

All printed material for the Currys’ stores in Bath, Didcot and Andover was produced on Sovereign Signs’ new Mimaki UJV55-320, an LED-UV inkjet printer that specialists at Soyang Europe were able to match up with the most suitable materials for maximum impact.

The company also worked closely with a number of proven and experienced partners to deliver graphics to other Currys stores which had been allocated to Sovereign Signs.

“I first got in contact with Soyang Europe when we knew the printer was being purchased and they have always provided us with trustworthy advice on media choices,” Steve Hancock said.

“We are looking forward to continuing our new relationship with the Soyang team and would like to thank Tim Egerton, Soyang Europe’s Sales Manager, in particular, for his help and advice.”
