Arizona State University go live with new MIS system

December 21, 2018

Arizona State University (ASU) has implemented the Tharstern MIS to create an integrated print environment. The Print and Imaging Lab at ASU is a unique print operation - their employees are composed of mainly students at the university, who are enrolled in the Graphic Information Technology program.

The Print and Imaging Lab specialize in high quality university marketing collateral and signage, utilizing a strong web-to-print system with a high-turnover workforce so they need an MIS that can easily support all sectors of production. They also need to integrate with a range of different presses: HP, Xerox, Roland and Fuji, to name a few.

The self-sufficient academic enterprise has a target to integrate all their software and utilize the MIS capabilities for advanced live pricing, reporting and automation to manage their vast growth: 47% over the last 4 years. It is imperative to choose an MIS that is fast, easy-to-use, has an excellent support staff and integration capabilities including live pricing.

“We were looking for an innovative partner who we could work with and learn from. Obviously, the capabilities of the system were key in our decision to go with Tharstern, but the attitude and enthusiasm from the Tharstern team made us 100% sure we’d made the right choice.” Cathy Skoglund, Senior Director, Print and Imaging Lab

When researching different systems, ASU was impressed with how fast and responsive the system was, as well as the live pricing capability that could be achieved when integrating the MIS with their web-to-print system, Catfish from Infigo Software. “We were also very impressed with how the Tharstern team listened to our needs and brainstormed together with us to create solutions. This was a large factor in our decision to choose them as our MIS partner.” Cathy Skoglund

ASU signed up to the Tharstern system in July, and due to their enthusiasm and hard work throughout the implementation, they ‘went live’ with the Tharstern system after just 100 days of the remote data build and 87 days after their first day of training.

Susan Moore, VP of Sales at Tharstern, is looking forward to seeing the results ASU will achieve from using the Tharstern system, “The ASU team were a pleasure to work with. Their enthusiasm and passion for what they do is tremendous to see and we’re all really excited to help them achieve their vision.”
