YR launch personalised face masks

August 11, 2020

YR is a UK fashion tech company working with global fashion brands and event organisers to deliver live customisation experiences to their customers - including Michael Kors, DKNY, Selfridges, Nike and Levi. Working on projects from product launches, retail pop-ups to exhibitions and global campaigns. With the latest venture being YR Masks.

In recent years, the company has experienced an explosion of interest in product customisation in-store, online and at events. Covid 19 has temporarily stunted YR's growth in live customisation at events but online product personalisation is booming.

With face coverings now mandatory in both shops and public transport services, it is clear they are now going to be an integral part of our ‘new normal’. So that’s why customisation kings, YR, have launched a new mask personalisation service, enabling customers to easily design their own face coverings online, from the comfort of their own homes.

About the Masks

These customisable masks retail at just £8 each including postage, they are washable and available in two sizes, suitable for both adults and children from 5 years up.

You have the option to choose from a variety of colours, stickers and patterns and are able to play around with the layout - you can really get creative with it.

Not only are they fun to make but they are both practical and comfortable made from a double-layer fabric, with the inner layer being 100% cotton and the outer layer is 'performance fabric with superior wicking' (polyester). Also, the elasticated straps ensure a snug fit around the face and all YR masks meet the WHO guidelines and come with two disposable blown glass filters suitable for ‘PM 2.5’ filtration.

Here for the long run?

Tim Williams, company co-founder, believes face coverings are here to stay, "Covid 19 has been an unexpected challenge for the retail industry and we are one of many businesses affected. But we have seen a 200% increase in enquiries for the YR platform from fashion and accessory brands and I predict the pandemic will not only drive demand for face coverings now, but it will be the must-have fashion accessory of the future".

Behind the tech

YR use state-of-the-art design software (created in-house) and direct-to-garment (DTG) printing technology combined with screens or mobile devices to enable anyone to create and print bespoke designs. DTG printing is fast meaning that the time taken to complete an on-demand or customised product customer order is decreased, making fast-fashion faster - personalisation no longer means having to wait patiently for weeks for your order. YR have made it possible to print on just about anything from t-shirts to trainers and now masks!

Sustainability

As well as the mask being reusable customisation in itself often prevents clothing from ending up in landfill as consumers are less likely to throw it away due to the piece being unique. Also, YR enable a super responsive on-demand supply chain meaning all the clothing they make is only printed or embroidered when the customer orders them. This reduces waste and overproduction tackling an industry problem head on.
